For the unit x project i felt confident in my work because I knew what I wanted to achieve. So far I have been mixing photography and illustrations. So far I have enjoyed the use of my personal blog but I still do not understand the need for a group blog I am finding it very disruptive to my work and confusing.

I feel a tad stuck and annoyed because I do not have print skills I feel I should be allowed in the print room so I can make some prints using some of the drawings that I have been doing.

So far I have tried to utilise Photoshop in my project as it is the only workshop appropriate to what I am doing at the moment. So far working outside my sketchbook and working on the 30 by 30 cm cardboard has been liberating and less daunting than working in a A3 sketchbook. I even went to London so some exhibitions and my favourite was the one at the Saatchi gallery about photography, it gave me more confidence to try and ‘dress up’ and experiment more I still need add up more props i.e. wigs

So far I am thinking of making engravings like the ones in the in the special collections library, I am have seen some examples in the laser room. For my final piece I think I want to do a very large scale drawing with min portraits I am going to use a roller as material, I suppose it is just an idea, I am going to start doing that as of now to see whether it works or not.

For this project I was really focused and did my work. I really enjoyed suing digital image as a toolkit for my samples. I wish I would have been allowed to do the print workshop, so I would have been able to apply some my sketches drawings into print.  I finished the entirety of my sketchbook for which I am proud of. I used the  digital image workshop to my advantage and used the large format printers to see my drawings in large scale. Overall I am very happy with the work I have done but I wish I would have had the opportunity to use other methods/workshops in my project.

For this project I picked repetition. I focused mainly on human hair. It is very handy because my current workshop is hand processes which has allowed me to work using the hair as my medium. I used the hair to stitch into fabric and sometimes I attempted to weave into the fabric to almost make it part of fabric. img001

I used a sewing needle to get this effect, I like how the loops are continually repeating themselves  with dishevelled hair. I like the way the tiny grains of hair sat on top fabric, the way the little hair look very delicate but combined with the thick loops, this  led me to my next idea, of  completely messing up the hair, dying it and  then drawing from what's left. I learnt a great deal from hand processes that I will continue to use in the future, that samples do n ot necessarily have to be made fro fabric which I had been doing at the beginning of my project. So far I have making digitalised samples using photoshop.

The image above shows what I have been working on at the moment, zooming into pictures and then reducing colour etc. to see what come of it. I like the transformation from traditional sample (that I had been making) to samples that are more vigorous and have more depth of colour and texture . So far I have been enjoying my project and I intend to do more samples and drawings to fill out my sketchbook. I am going to start working out of my sketch book because it very small and constricting.

For the project brief Sleuth, Spies and Lies, I do not think I performed very well to my standard. I picked Morrissey as my ‘word’ for the project instead of me embarking on what could have been an amazing project I found myself dwindling and not doing my work as I should have been because I spent so much time analysing all my research and being critical of the brief before I had even done an work, which I think affected my performance on this brief so therefore I fell out of love with my project. On the brighter side I learnt that I am good at drawing and should put more practice into it. I thoroughly enjoyed my KNIT Workshop apart from the ‘fuss’ with the knitting machines, which I will get the hang of on the other hand my 3D workshop was not as enjoyable although I did learn to use industrial sewing machines and over lockers. I also have been learning the basics of pattern cutting and making which is a plus for the 3D workshop. I felt my project did not work well with that particular workshop.
